Song: War of 1812
Artist: Arrogant Worms
Our teacher taught us this for history class...little did she know, she'd never hear
the end of it! I've heard it covered many other times by different bands, but it's most
famous version is by The Arrogant Worms. Although I think if you look closer, it was
actually written by a band called "Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie." (I just can't keep
track of all
these CBC Radio comedy troupes...)
So here it is. A really simple and fun song (that's not meant to offend anybody) in standard tuning. Enjoy!
Chords: D x00232, A x02220, G 320033
Intro:
D
Oh, come back, proud Canadians
A
To before you had TV,
G
No hockey night in Canada,
D A
There was no CBC (Oh, my God!).
D
In 1812, Madison was mad,
A
He was the president, you know
G D A
Well, he thought he'd tell the British where they ought to go
D
He thought he'd invade Canada,
A
He thought that he was tough
G
Instead we went to Washington....
D A D
And burned down all his stuff!
Chorus:
G
And the White House burned, burned, burned,
D A
And we're the one's that did it!
G
It burned, burned, burned,
D A
While the president ran and cried.
G
It burned, burned, burned,
D A
And things were very historical.
A
And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
G A D
In the War of 1812!
Verse:

D
Now some hillbillies from Kentucky,
A
Dressed in green and red,
G
Left home to fight in Canada,
D A
But they returned home dead
D A
It's the only war the Yankees lost, except for Vietnam
G D A
And also the Alamo... and the Bay of... ham.
D
The loser was America,
A
The winner was ourselves,
G D A D
So join right in and gloat about the War of 1812
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
D A
In 1812, we were just sittin' around,
D
Mindin' our own business, puttin' crops into the ground.
A
We heard the soldiers coming and we didn't like that sound.
D
So we took a boat to Washington and burned it to the ground.
D A
Oh... we... fired our guns, but the Yankees kept-a coming,
D A
There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago.
D A
We fired once more and the Yankees started running,
D
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, oh, oh....
A D
They ran through the snow and they ran through the forest,
A D
They ran through the bushes where the beavers wouldn't go.
A D
They ran so fast, they forgot to take their culture,
A D
Back to America, and Gulf and Texaco...oh...oh...oh...
D A
So, if you go to Washington, its buildings clean and nice,
G D A D
Bring a pack of matches, and we'll burn the White House twice!
Repeat Chorus
