- but are Tom Petty's way, not John's.
Although most of the song is fingerpicked, its fingerpicked through the 3 chords: D/F#,
and A
I think it sound best to have the A string and the high E muted, but its up to you, and
A can be varied with an Asus4 - its up to you what sound you like best.
