Wait Until Tomorrow
John Mayer Trio
Tuning: Half-Step Down; Eb-Ab-Db-Gb
Bassist Pino Palladino
Album: Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert

All right, very difficult song,
a lot of stops and starts everywhere,
kind of a hard bass line,
if you do not know how to improvise,
just playing based on the chords will sound boring.
Im going to lay out a bass line that I used when I play with my band.
Listening to the song will explain many things though.
However, I usually never play the same thing exact again,
as I said you need to know how to improvise.
Pino Palladino destroys this bass line though. Here we go.

Intro: john mayer is going to play a guitar riff,
you only play two notes, for a short while, during that riff
   E7
Gb|---------------| x3
Db|---------------|
Ab|---------77----|
Eb|---------------|
   E7
Gb|---------------|x1
Db|---------------|
Ab|--------7/19\7-|
Eb|---------------|

Intro 2: Chords Change
   A7 B7

Db|-----------------------|
Ab|-------457--------679--|
Eb|--5-5-5------7-7-7-----|

Verse: In the first A7 nothing is played, but that is the only time in the entire song
   A7 B7
Gb|------------------------------------------|x1
Db|------------------------------------------|
Ab|-------------------------------------679--|
Eb|--------------------------------7-7-7-----|
Well, im standing here freezing, outside (notes and lyrics do not match in time)

   A7 B7
Gb|-----------------------|x3
Db|-----------------------|
Ab|-------457--------679--|
Eb|--5-5-5------7-7-7-----|

There is a break between the verse and chorus, dont play anything,
but you can play something cool after he says,
but now youre telling me,
because there is a little drum riff before entering the chorus.
So play during the drum riff, oh and the chord during that time is E7.

Chrous: Im going to match the lyric with the notes so it makes more sense
   E7 G7 A7
Gb|-------------------------------------------| x3
Db|-----------------------------------7---7---|
Ab|-7~--7-7-7-7-------------------------------|
Eb|--------------3----3----3---5-5--5---5---5-|
I think gonna wait till to--morrow

End Chorus:
   E7
Gb|-----------------------|x1
Db|-----------------------|
Ab|-----------------------|
Eb|-7~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
Gotta make sure its right so til tomorrow goodnight

Intro x2

Verse x4 (play in the first A7)

Break

Chorus (exactly the same)

End Chorus

Intro x4 (like the first time)

Verse x4 (play in the first A7)

Break

Chorus (exactly the same)

End chorus

Chorus (exactly the same)

End Chorus (leading into the solo, get ready)

Solo:
ALRIGHT HERE IS THE DEAL,
YOU WOULD PLAY THE CHORUS FOR THE SOLO,
BUT YOU HAVE TO IMPROVISE, LIKE CRAZY!
SO IT’S THE SAME E7, G7, A7 CHORD PROGESSION,
BUT PLAY THE CHORD NOTES OR YOU COULD PLAY THE PENATONIC SCALE.
ALSO GO UP CHROMATICALLY TO THE CHORDS,
IF YOU GET LOST STAY IN THE E MINOR PENATONIC SCALE,
BUT PLAY LIKE CRAZY BY CHANGING OCTAVES.
TO GET THE BEST IDEAS LISTEN TO HOW PINO PALLADINO PLAYS.
AS FAR AS HOW MANY TIMES TO PLAY YOU GOT TO PAY ATTENTION
JOHN MAYER NEVER KEEP THE SAME NUMBER OF TIMES ON THE SOLO,
SO STAY ON YOUR FEET, BECAUSE THE SONG ENDS ON THE INTRO.
