WASTE (off of Phish's new album Billy Breathes)
music by Trey Anastasio
words by Tom Marshall
transcription by Mike Sartor
I just wanted to post my version (actually the version Mike taught me) of this
song because I think Bill Schofield posted a couple of wrong chords, so here it
goes...
The Chords:
C Cmaj7 C7 Cmaj7sus4 Cadd9 (C9 without the 7th)
E--------0------0--------0----------1-----------0--
B--------1------0--------1----------0-----------3--
G--------0------0--------3----------0-----------0--
D--------2------2--------2----------2-----------2--
A--------3------3--------3----------3-----------3--
E--------------------------------------------------
F Fmaj7
E--------1-------0---
B--------1-------1---
G--------2-------2---
D--------3-------3---
A--------3-------0---
E--------1-------0---
There's a little riff between a couple of the lines, and in the intro, that goes
like this,
Riff 1:
Cmaj7sus4 Cmaj7 Cadd9 F
E------1---1---0---0---0---1--
B------0---0---0---0---3---1--
G------0---0---0---0---0---2--
D------2---2---2---2---2---3--
A------3---3---3---3---3---3--
E--------------------------1--
The Song:
Intro:
C Cmaj7 C7 Cmaj7sus4 Cmaj7 Cadd9 F Fmaj7 C

BRIDGE 2
CHORUS:
F Gm Bb F(ii)
(Come waste your time with me) 2X
Repeat second bridge:
So if I'm inside your head
Don't believe what you might have read
You'll see what I might have said
To hear it
Come waste your time with me
NOTES abd TIPS:
1) ** the Cmaj11, Cmaj7, C9 part in the beginning of the
song sounds as if Trey is picking the E and B strings.
As an alternative to playing these chords you can just
play the 3 notes that are the signature of this little part:
Cmaj11 CAj7 C9
E-----1-------0-------------- And after this go into the
B---------------------3------ F -> Fm -> C
G----------------------------
D----------------------------
A----------------------------
E----------------------------
2) The second bridge sounds real nice when the Eb and Bb are
played on the 6th fret and the C and F are played on the 8th.
3) the F at the begining of the chorus should be played on the
1st fret, and the F at the end of the line should be played on
the 8th.
Enjoy!
