Everybody Wants You
by Billy Squier
This is *NOT* correct to the record, but I am the only guitarist
in our band, so fullness of sound is important. The way Bill S.
plays it is higher in pitch (same key) but doesn't come off well
live that way. You can transpose it up an octave easily if you
want to be closer to the recorded version.
Here is how *I* do it, and it packs the dance floor everytime:

At this point the bass and drummer join me for two more
of the above...

Verse 1:
You see em coming at you every night
strung on pretension, they fall for you at first sight
you know thier buisness-you think it's a bore
they make you restless-it's nothing you ain't seen before
*** Pretty repeatitive for awhile, then for the chorus, you'll be
doing the "3 - 5 5" thingy as above; drop down to an E chord
but you'll only be playing the open strings. EX:

^---Hold an E chord but only play these notes (sort of a ghost chord)
Chorus:
you never let down...say you do it for fun
never miss a play, though you make quite a few
you give it all away when everybody wants you
OK, now you have how that goes, to fill in "holes" or blank spots
in the music, I pick single strings while holding the chords
in the next part. The first part is the same E as show directly
above, I'm just continueing it here:

This may look weird, but try it, it fills the gaps because this
is a very beat oriented song, and you need something to carry the
tune when the singer isn't on the note. You can play around with the
E chord too, based on the above. You play the above twice... then
there is the "stop" where musicians stop and the singer goes:
"Everybody wants you...." then back to the beginning sequence again.
Then for the bridge: (hold a regular D chord and pick as shown, again
this isn't how it is on the record, but this is easy to play and fits
well in a live performance of the song)

The legendary bend!
Then the piano note, I play it like they do, but sometimes make the
"chicken cluck" note for fun:

That should give you a good start and enough for you to play it your
way.
Here are the lyrics:
Billy Squier
Everybody Wants You
You see em coming at you every night
strung on pretension, they fall for you at first sight
you know thier buisness-you think it's a bore
they make you restless-it's nothing you ain't seen before
get around town, spend your time on the run
you never let down...say you do it for fun
never miss a play, though you make quite a few
you give it all away when everybody wants you
You crave attention-you can never say "no"
throw your attention anyway the wind blows
you always make it-you're on top of the scene
you sell the copy like the cover of a magazine
puttin' on the eyes 'till there's nobody else
you never realize what you do to yourself
the things that they see make the daily reviews
you never get it for free when everybody wants you
everybody knows you
everybody snows you
everybody needs you...leads you...bleeds you
Nights of confusion and impossible dreams
days at the mirror, patchin' up around the seams
you got your glory-you paid for it all
you take your pension in loneliness and alcohol
say good-bye to conventional ways
you can't escape the hours-you lose track of the days
the more you understand, seems the more like you do
you never get away...everybody wants you
